new bedroom rug

In this post, you saw my plans for our bedroom. The new rug arrived last week, and I had to share! I'm so happy with it. It never ceases to amaze me just how much one layer in the form of a rug can add sooooo much coziness to a space. Walking into the room and feeling the plushness under my toes doesn't get old. :) Now to work on the rest of the room!

set the table

I pulled together a few very simple tabletops, to show you just how achievable it can be to have a beautiful, welcoming table for the holidays. Truthfully, I didn't spend more than five minutes on any one of these set-ups. It's that simple! Our dining room table itself isn't perfect, with a few marks and scratches, but this is real life. Let's not aim for perfection! It's about setting a space that draws you in, invites coziness and being together. Candles and decor were grabbed from around the house, and a few small branches clipped from the front yard. And there you have it!

The sun was crazy bright in our dining room (no complaints :)), which made decent photos challenging!

Swept up in a very silly Facebook message conversation with my sisters the other day, I somehow agreed to a handmade-only Christmas gift exchange. My sisters are all very talented and resourceful (think: knitting, sewing, quilting, yard-bombing antlers, upholstery projects, etc. ;)...) and I had a moment of, "what did I get myself into??"  BUT then I got excited. I'm embracing it. After a bit of pinning last night, here's where I'm at...

Love these!! Not as gifts, but while I'm on a roll with the diy, how about these gold-leafed avocado seeds to adorn my new block-printed napkins? Perhaps I'll try my first round of block-printed napkins for Thanksgiving, paired with these, as a test run.

mr. reindeer

What is it about reindeer that have so much personality?? I love these guys. If you follow me on instagram, you know that I resisted a larger, more colorful relative of this guy (once again, at HomeGoods!) last week. 

This later find is just perfect because he's attractive and practical. I've been looking for creative jewelry storage, and can definitely justify keeping him in rotation at least until January, or until I find an equally cool replacement. I'm loving the modern, subtle, super-cool and stylish holiday vibe he brings to our dresser. He's so well-liked that I wasn't sure about loading him down with jewels, and played around with the less-is-more approach (as seen below). But let's face it... he was made to carry a load of treasures! ;)

simple simple

I picked up some sparkly and colored tapers at HomeGoods the other day and can't believe what a difference they're making in various spots around the house! Just goes to show how a super simple update can breathe fresh air into your decor. It doesn't get much easier than this, right?!

For some reason, I have the Christmas decorating bug early this year! These candles and the resulting rearranging are helping to satisfy the urge, somewhat. And the sparkly numbers will wait until December (probably...maybe :)). I think I'll gradually bring in other touches over the next few weeks. Like this JOY ....so good!! (also from HomeGoods)

the glass + brass box was a Goodwill find yesterday, for a client ... not sure about that now ;)

Vignettes are being switched up all over the house, with no end in sight as we approach the holidays!

So good, satisfying, rich. His goodness overwhelms me. He's more than I need. Surpasses all my wants, desires, concerns, struggles.

I won't rest on or be satisfied with yesterday's stuff, no matter how good it was. Today is new, today is here... today, there's more.
