ikea win

Don't you love it when Ikea comes through? Ever since our Mexico trip last May, I've been on the lookout for frames to fit these beloved Otomi paintings...and found the perfect solution at Ikea last week, and for $10!! Love it!

I thought for sure I was going to need custom frames, and absolutely thought I would be paying more than $10!

Tip: in my wallet, I always carry measurements for various pieces of furniture/other items I'm on the lookout for. This way, when I'm out and about I know whether something will work. I have lists for our home and clients'.

The black backing was already in place, and was the PERFECT backdrop for the imperfect, slightly frayed edges of the paintings. I'm telling you - win/win/win!!

It's true that these are not the only pieces of Otomi art in our house (you might remember two others from our dining room, although they all move around quite a bit and those two are now in a hall nook!). We do have a growing collection, and am not sure it'll be stopping anytime soon. I might be willing to part with a few one day...but only to a very good home...I'll need to be convinced :)

roar

These fancy pulls are a recent addition to our newly painted magnetic chalkboard cabinet. You like?

I love 'em. Started with just the two but will definitely be ordering two more for the bottom doors. Then, I'll be sure to style up those cabinets for you and share away :)

project Room for Two Sisters...almost there!

This week I dropped off a newly upholstered bench for two beautiful sisters and their nearly-finished room!

We recently added some fun touches to the walls, including some empty frames - ha! Those will soon be filled with fun photos of the girls and their friends :)

The room has so many really interesting touches, including this awesome wall below with the green detail. I'll share details about everything once it's finished and properly photographed, but am more than happy to answer specific questions now if you have them - comment away! :)

Yay - seeing their happy reactions at each stage is the best part, by far!

Just a few finishing touches left until the project is completed and you'll see every nook and cranny of this colorful and personality-filled space :)

new home for the tulip table

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, our dining room has a new table (a Craigslist find which you'll hear more about soon), which means the 'old' table has been relocated!

That's right, what was previously our dining room table is now an end table in our living room. Love it when little switch-ups, often using what you already own, can make such a huge difference! This table has amazing potential for vignettes and piles...and I do love piles :) The current arrangement was created by moving a variety of candle holders, a tray, an elephant, an orchid, magazines, some remaining birthday flowers, etc. from different places in the house....

progress

I have to admit I've been pretty focused lately on getting a few rooms in our house 'finished,' (oh what a temporary state that is... ;)) and in the progress haven't often stopped to recognize just how much progress has been made. My natural focus is on what's next / what I see that bothers me right now, but I'm making an effort to tweak this way of thinking, so let's go!

My husband was out of town for a few days recently, so I enjoyed my freedom by reserved my ZipCar minivan and loaded it up at Ikea....wooo hoooo! (Isn't that everyone's idea of fun?! :))

I had spotted this shelving unit on their website. For $15, it was the perfect temporary storage solution for the dining room. Part of my 'embracing the process' mindset is realizing that those perfect pieces often - usually - take time to stumble upon. It's not something you can rush. But in the meantime, some functional storage was pretty important to me, and $15 is not a bad investment to solve this dilemma! Agreed?

Moving some of our plates over here meant FINALLY having room on the kitchen shelves for our beautiful collection of glasses. As you may remember, I talked about this struggle last year.

Here are the beautiful rows of glasses!

(may I remind you, they were previously being stored on top of the refrigerator and a kitchen cabinet...it felt soooooo good to bring them out and display them as they deserve :))

The shelves aren't the only change to the dining room. This mirror was nabbed at HomeGoods last week and I am in love. It was one of those things...I didn't necessarily have a location in mind for it, but it's so gorgeous and I knew it could easily fill any number of given spots in our house. So, here it is for now....

So beautiful, right?!

And finally, if you're super-duper observant and know my house well, you may have noticed a different dining table in the first photo above! I'll share more of that soon...I do believe it has some neon-dipped legs in its future. And the tulip table has been relocated, which you'll see more of tomorrow :)
